| We hear lots of Horror Stories
about Contractors from our Customers. At least 30% of the new projects we
accept are "clean-up" or "fix" another Contractors mistakes. And granted,
we all make a mistake here and there. But, MGL Construction doesn't want
to contribute to the Horror Stories.
So, one of our goals here at MGL Construction is to provide our Customers
with a better experience. Not that we don't make mistakes. Because every
Contractor does. We do everything we can (within reason) to fix any
mistakes we make and make every effort to provide satisfaction for our
Customer with the results of our work.
On occasion we have issues arise relative
to a Customer not being satisfied with our performance. These issues
usually are a derivative of poor communication and are easily resolved.
During the past year, MGL Construction has had only two instances in which
we were unable to resolve a Customer issue. And, in both instances the
Customer wanted "something for nothing," wanted work performed that they
hadn't contracted for, nor paid for.
An "Old Timer" in the Construction Trades
once told me . . . "Don't work for free, and don't charge for work you
didn't do." I agree with him. So, we do neither. Everything we intend to
do for the amount to be paid, is noted within the Agreement signed by both
us and our Customer. And, although we sometimes do work not covered within
the Agreement for free, it is never free to us. There are costs associated
with every minute of every day spent at a Customer Job Site.
To alleviate such concerns MGL Construction
provides each Customer a Budget Breakdown of charges and service provided.
This provides our Customer reference of what work is to be performed for
what amount. If we agree to tile a bathroom for a set amount, using tiles
costing $2.00 per square foot and the Customer wants tile costing $4.00
per square foot, budget modification is necessary. The opposite is also
true. If we charged for $4.00 per square foot but the Customer wants tile
at $2.00 per square foot, the budget also requires modification. It's all
about fairness. We perform our services using materials chosen by you at a
rate you agree to. In return we agree to payment for such at rates
agreed to by us.
So there is little concern about payments
made to MGL Construction, deposit, payment schedule, and amounts to be
paid are included within the Agreement. By making specific payment
notation within the Agreement, both the Customer and MGL Construction are
aware of expectations relative to work completed vs. payment received.
Every time payment made to MGL Construction
is recorded and signed for on the Customer copy of the signed Agreement.
In addition to serving as a ready payment reference, this practice also
serves as an on-going receipt for the Customer.
As stated earlier, our goal is to provide
our Customer a good experience in their dealings with MGL Construction.
